Intro

As a way of saying thanks to the people who contribute to reddit, a set of daily reddit awards was established in late 2009. Each night at midnight RST (reddit Standard Time), the awards are calculated for the previous day and the winners listed on our honor roll. Also, each winner receives a trophy on their user page as a token of having won the award.

What's the difference between an award and a trophy?

The award is the reason someone is being honored -- the category in which they excel(led). For example, "Best Link". The trophy is the digital token placed on the recipient's userpage to commemorate that particular person winning that particular award on that particular day.

Can you create a new award for me / my community?

We'd like to keep awards prestigious, and if we just give them out willy-nilly it defeats the whole purpose. That said, if you have an idea for one, we're open to suggestions. Especially if the award will have broad appeal across all of reddit.

Can I get a trophy?

The first rule of trophies is you do not ask for trophies.

(Rules 2 and higher are simply repetitions of this first one, with increasing levels of emphasis.)
