I have the frequency scaling applet, one for each core, so I can see the speed. To see that it's throttled down, I run cpufreq-info and normally it reports a bunch of stuff, one line of which is: current policy: frequency should be within 800 MHz and 2.80 GHz. The governor "ondemand" may decide which speed to use within this range. However, when temperature throttling kicks on, no matter what I set the CPU speed to be (ondemand, performance, forced to 2.8GHz), it changes to say: current policy: frequency should be within 800 MHz and 800 MHz. This only happens with reasonably heavy CPU usage for 15-30 seconds, such as watching a Flash video or watching an h264 encoded video. Even after the temperature goes down again (as reported by acpi -V), it still stays like this for a while before eventually unthrottling.

The weird thing is that it didn't used to do this. It only started sometime in the last couple weeks. I thought maybe it was due to a recent kernel update but I've tried every kernel installed and they all have it. I tried applied the most recent BIOS update, but that didn't fix it.

I sort of tried that. I set in the BIOS for it to be at the max clock speed while on AC and to only scale down on battery, but it didn't fix it and it still throttles down. I also tried a bios upgrade.

Hey reddit! I'm having an issue no one seems to be able to solve, but I have faith in your collective power.

So one of my laptops with 10.04 developed a weird bug recently where it keeps thinking the CPU runs too hot whenever there is any type of load, and it throttles it down to 800Mhz (max speed is 2.8GHz). Core 2 Duo. acpi -V shows the temperature is only 45C. No matter what I try, I cannot seem to override this. Movies or videos are completely unwatchable. My older laptop with a Core Duo and also running 10.04 doesn't experience this problem.

Is there a way to just disable temperature throttling? Thanks!

EDIT: The laptop is a Thinkpad T400

Congrats on getting the position! It's interesting that your shop had such a bad experience with it. I'm a [kratom](http://www.getkratom.com) vendor online ([getkratom.com](http://www.getkratom.com)) and I was always curious why it's not really sold much in head shops, because it really does work and is pretty potent if it's good stuff and if it's taken correctly. The few head shops we've seen it in had no idea what it really was. I'm guessing the guy that ate it had too much and ended up getting sick. Out of curiosity, do you remember who the distributor was and what type of kratom they sold? Was it powdered leaf or an extract? I think it comes down to people don't really know how to do it correctly, and/or do too much/too little. PM me your shop's address and I'll send you a free sample and good instructions. Maybe you'll have a better experience.

The EVO uses micro HDMI. I ordered a mini HDMI to regular HDMI cable from monoprice when I first got my phone, and the mini HDMI connector is way too big for the EVO.

I can assure you that it is a neurological opiate. Alcohol, pot, and nicotine are not neurological opiates, as they do not bind to and activate mu-opiate receptors. Kratom does. There isn't a chart per say, but I know from experience that about 0.5 oz of Bali (or ~2 tablespoons) is equivalent to around 25-30mg of hydrocodone when made as a tea. It may be slightly stronger or weaker for different people though, as is the case with all drugs. The other strains of kratom are somewhat different, with some being a stronger opiate, and some being slightly weaker but more stimulating. As for extracts, about 2-2.5 grams of UEI is equivalent to a half ounce of Bali, though the effects are slightly different. EDIT: Doing an equivalent amount of ground leaf kratom will probably make you sick... You might be able to get away with an extract though. I'm not entirely sure about the equivalence for 15x, but kevin143 can probably answer that for you. We're going to soon stock a 50x extract (waiting on the shipment from our supplier) that is closer in strength to UEI.

You in theory can smoke it, but the effects are extremely short lived. It's best to make it as a tea and filter out the powder by letting it settle to the bottom and pouring it through a coffee filter, or using a french press. The extracts can be put into pills or mixed into something like apple sauce. I agree with you, the green powder itself is pretty unappealing...

There a cross tolerance between kratom and other opiates. Unfortunately no LD50 studies have been done on kratom. However, the ground leaf kratom has a unique property where it also contains a small amount of opiate antagonist. This means that it will actually make you sick and/or throw up before you would be able to overdose....almost like a built in safety mechanism. The extracts, such as Ultra Enhanced Indo (UEI), do not have this antagonist and you could in theory overdose on it. The following paper goes into great detail on everything known about the active compound in kratom, 7-hydroxymitragynine: http://www.scribd.com/doc/34428725/7-hydroxymitragynine Unfortunately, there isn't much I can tell you about dosage without knowing how much of a tolerance you already have other than to try different amounts and see what works for you.

We ship from Pittsburgh, PA. The difference between strains is really subtle, and usually the Bali, which is one of the cheaper varieties, is the one to get. However, currently it is the dry season in Indonesia so the Bali is a little weaker. Regardless, the Bali is still good for the money. Ones like Super Green Malaysian and Maeng Da are more stimulating than sedating.

I second [kratom](http://www.getkratom.com). I run a website that sells it (along with Kava) [getkratom.com](http://www.getkratom.com). It's not in capsules, but it's probably cheaper than what you're paying for kava on Vitamin Shoppe. We also sell Cacao Extract which is pretty high in theobromine (similar to caffeine), however we're out of stock of that right now. It definitely gives you a speedy, caffeine feeling, especially if you mix a little in coffee. Kratom has some alkaloids that are stimulants, which is why it's not sedating like other opiates. Different strains have different ratios of the simulating and opiating alkaloids, so have slightly different effects. These are pretty much the only legal drugs (other than salvia) that do anything. When I lived on Ward St on the other side of the Blvd, my roommate used to park his car near Ward and Cato because it was easier to find a spot. We'd regularly see the sketchiest people standing on corners, sometimes trying to sell us drugs. We once came out to find one of the tires had been taken off his car and was just tossed on the other side of the street. Some guy who was out on his porch at the time helped us put it back on in exchange for some weed.
