Tort Lawyers generally only get paid if their client wins and then they only get a fraction of whatever the payout was.

Standard contingency fee (in California at least) is 33% if it settles before trial, 40% if you win at trial. "Only a fraction" is a hell of a lot, frankly.

I think that the use of the phrase "garden-variety blond beauty queens" is very telling in this instance.

Can we agree that the reason beauty has been traditionally valued is because of its relative rarity? When everyone looks like the traditional "hot girl," they are average.

Beauty to me is a rare mix of mental, emotional, intellectual and physical characteristics that are attractive when considered together. It's the whole package, not merely what you see on your computer monitor.

I am a firm believer that the personality and sense of humor that many of us find so attractive in women has a strong correlation to how attractive/popular that person was growing up. For example, I had a girlfriend in college who was pretty pudgy through high school and got only got into great shape in college after we started working out together. She was cute and pudgy before, and gorgeous and slender after. Because she wasn't "hot" growing up, she had a much better personality and sense of humor that the "hot" girls in high school never had to develop.

TL;DR - Many fat chicks are cool because they have to be; otherwise nobody would talk to them.
