The story if I remember correctly was that the attackers father had a heart problem and he had repeatedly warned the police about it. Gambling is completely forbidden, just like drinking alcohol. The rules cover everything from casino's to investing buying currencies on the forex. The reason for this is because basically, you're engaging in an activity of chance where the end results are outside of your hands. It's a rule which is found in the Torah and The Bible even if it isn't necessarily followed in this day and age.

Most pracitising Muslims will do their best to have nothing to do with Gambling what so ever. I know many people who would refuse to enter a Casino because they don't want to see others sinning.
