Do Architects Know Graphic Design?

ghdiel 1 point2 points 4 days ago[-]

Not really...architects are trained in three-dimensional relationships, graphic designers are trained in two-dimensional layouts...similar, but not the same. There are graphic designers who do great architectural work and architects who do really great graphic design. One big difference, graphic designers have more experience with typography, and print technology...architects have a structural understanding of building materials. Again, there are exceptions.

...so the cap is working...Now, how do we cap amoral, unethical behavior and greed at the corporate level? One suggestion, IMHO...corporations should not be given the legal status of an 'individual'...where the hell in our constitution is this given as a right.

ghdiel [S] -1 points0 points 15 days ago[-]

Correct. However, we also have laws and regulation as part of the social contract, but, those laws and regulations attendant to that contract must be enforced, and THAT, is what is not being done. Our lawmakers have seen to it that their funding for election to office is greased by corporate interests represented by lobbyist contribution...and of course lobbying, the right to petition our government IS in the constitution...and that is why corporations are a identified as a legal personality, an individual. So no matter how mega huge and monopolistic the corporation is...it has the same status as a much smaller lobbyist...say, your local library.

I am thinking of initiating a class action law suit against Facebook for making it virtually impossible to remove unwanted accounts and defunct groups. Thoughts?

ghdiel [S] 0 points1 point 16 days ago[-]

A group or an account may be very important to individuals who have tacitly agreed to accepting placement of their name in the group as a member, or in error in a previous account, and committed themselves professionally to a representation regarding their professions, from which they earn income. If a bogus group, for instance, misleads future members/friends exists and includes an inadvertent error - and is the result of misleading, complex, and confusing instructions by the provider setting up an account, for instance, the future possible removal of the account/group, in this case Facebook - in the U.S....tort prevails.

A pair of engineers say they have a solution to stop the Gulf oil spill and they demonstrate it with a garden hose and PVC pipe in a guy's driveway. And just to bust BP's balls, they paint it bright green and yellow

ghdiel 0 points1 point 24 days ago[-]

All the oil is BP's..even the bits recovered and future recovered, If they seal the well, the potential revenue it contains and their investment will be lost, and, they will be fined for the amount of oil leaked into the Gulf, therefore, BP wants to disperse the oil making measurement of the actual amount leaked difficult and if they know, unavailable. The well could have been sealed shortly after it began leaking with explosives and concrete and rock encasement...but, BP has no incentive to do this. At least that's how I have surmised how it is going down from various reports.

We are Losing our Nation to Lies about the Necessity of War

Nowhere in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 is there a season to lie...

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sow; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war; and a time of peace.

Debt isn't bad if you have the income to pay for it.

ghdiel [S] -1 points0 points 28 days ago[-]

I think the focus of the report is not on handling personal debt, but the federal budget...they are two distinctly different things...Many folks feel the federal government should be handled like a business, with a balanced financial statement...that the budget should always be balanced; the federal government finances, especially the U.S., cannot be dealt with like the family budget nor can it be managed exactly like a business with P&L's, financial statements and reports, IMHO, and I think by examples of history. I guess I agree with Harold Evans on this one... http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-06-28/harry-evans-on-why-the-budget-cutters-are-wrong/?cid=hp:mainpromo6

That's not what was suggested in the OP.

Debt isn't bad if you have the income to pay for it.

ghdiel [S] 0 points1 point 28 days ago[-]

If you want to buy a $10,000 item, but only have $5,000 on hand but are certain you will have $20,000 within the next two years and the item is needed immediately, that, is where credit and debt obligations are handy. Obviously, if you have unlimited income, debt is unnecessary...but, nations for instance, have resources, say mineral resources in the ground and WILL HAVE the income in the future, but need cash to pay government workers immediately...they have two choices, print money (inflation), or borrow the money, (debt).

Debt isn't bad if you have the income to pay for it.

ghdiel [S] 2 points3 points 28 days ago[-]

Not, if your income keeps increasing...and your other assumption, parties and travel...hmm.

I have lost too many members of my family to be blind, to be naive.

You are full of seething hatred, apparently, that is too bad. You are overlooking the good of this world. I do not blindly love this country, nor do I reject loving others just because they are not like me, nor do I wish to change others to my personal views.

The only argument I have is with anger. With hatred.

The ruling god of this this world is tricky, therein lies the 'snake oil'. Be wary.

When folks kill in accidents behind the wheel because they are blind drunk and wipe out an entire family with a head on crash, yet they survive, there certainly should not be honor for the perpetrator.

We, or at least the majority, believe in punishing those guilty, it is a social contract.

War too, is a social contract...a cultural contract between nations. There are bad actors on all sides, certainly. And if one side sits peacefully, passively on the side, and does nothing while one nation or group massacres another, they are as much at fault as those perpetrating the killing. There are also good actors on all sides.

At some point, someone stands raises their hand and says, "Stop." We in the United States have not always done this in an honorable way, agreed, but the opposite - honorable action - also has happened.

I believe there are screwed up people all over the world who would be happy to slaughter you and your family like so much meat without blinking an eye just because they disagree with you, hate your gender, your religion, the color of your skin...almost anything. Those are the bad guys, and when someone bravely intercedes to save your life, your freedoms...that, is honorable.

Remember this world is ruled by an angry, vengeful, god...but that is not the spirit I pray to.

You?

Peace.

This is R. Henry Nigl, answering for my Uncle, G. H. Diel who is really not active here, actually he is bedridden, we talk, I enter his comments...but, I am the one with the son, age 21, a turret gunner on an MRAP in the Pech River Valley, daily contact with Taliban now...My friend, my heart goes out to you, family and friends. My son is very stoic, has confronted fear, repeatedly, went through basic twice, then Air Assault, got his wings, then Ranger training, broke his leg on the last test, then trained as an honor guard at the tomb of unknown soldier and as a guard at Arlington. But he wanted more. So he signed on at the 101st, Ft. Campbell...went through training all over, then deployed early Spring to Afghanistan.

I and his mom, it was not our choice, but it is his life...each day we think about Rich...so very much we love our youngest, he has three brothers.

I thought I was prepared...but, now, I'm not so sure. I think I might be a total wreck if he lost his life.

There is no good war.

Oh, I see, you are replying to 'barbadosslim', not me, but it showed up following my comment as a reply...'barbadosslim' is being foolish, his view is not what honorable service to his country is about, it is about offering you own life to defend what you deem of value...right or wrong, and that is noble...Unless 'barbadosslim' puts his/her life on the line, maybe he/she has or lost someone to war, and I can understand that hatred, but, in the end, they are expressing the cousin of fear...hatred. That make the argument lukewarm at best, or perhaps even an expression of cowardice.

Why would you comment like that...I have a 21 year old relative deployed in the Pech River Valley with the 101st Airborne...we pray every day...I have no idea where you're coming from...I am eighty-six years old...don't have much growing time left...our hearts are filled with love and support, contrary-wise, I worry that your heart is filled with hate.

If the United States and allies withdrew entirely from Afghanistan...the Taliban would be sh*tfaced...first of all they wouldn't know what to do. Ha! Surprise! The entire population...back at 'em.
