Who made the U.S. judge and jury of Armenian Genocide?

mhughes3500 [S] -1 points0 points 13 days ago[-]

The author did. And I know you're busy, but wish you would have read the entire article, because what is also apparent is past U.S. sins that have not been categorized. I just don't understand why Turkey doesn't put together a political committee to denounce past U.S. genocidal crimes (American-Phillipine War, Native American genocide, etc., etc.).

U.S. and poorly-trained Afghan Army endure Taliban gunfire in Marjah

mhughes3500 [S] 1 point2 points 27 days ago* [-]

This article's 'Afghan Army' is really a group of US-funded mercenaries.

Hard to argue with this point I must admit, because it's true. High % of military is outsourced to private industry.

The real Afghan army are those trying to throw off yet another colonial parasite.

Not sure- the "foreigners" and Karzai government, as inept as it is, are outpolling Taliban who have a 9% favorability rating. We should probably get the hell out of there because it's none of our business, but I don't think the locals are looking forward to Taliban rule and their perverted version of Sharia law.

The Graveyard of Empires will also be the graveyard of your nation's wealth

This is somewhat a misnomer because no empires have technically died in Afghanistan. And it's a stretch to say Afghanistan has never been ruled or lost or ever surrendered to invasion. Plenty of history from Al the Great to Soviets of taking over the country for quite sometime. They are good at waiting people out for 10 years, but it's not like they are some undefeated defensive army. Point being, no external interventionists can totally rule or win over a nation vs. indigenous people and forces.

I do agree w/ the notion that continuing to spend $1 million per troop for 10 years will certainly come close to bankrupting the US.- if it isn't bankrupt already....

to protect pipelines, poppies and military contracts.

Point somewhat conceded. You are correct, in my opinion, about the pipelines and contracts. It is so transparent that it's amusing. Perhaps not our sole focus, but a nice little side benefit of invading Afghanistan. However, the poppies is a different matter because the U.S. is encouraging farmers to transition from poppies to other crops which would change the dynamics of the opium and heroine trade, considering AFghanistan produces some 80% of word supply - or some insane number like that

(p.s.- not sure why your comment received such downvotes right off the bat- you touched someone's nerve).

Rahm is Telling Obama to Ignore Lakoff

The bigger issue is, comments such as this lack creativity. The easiest way to tear down an argument is w/ simplistic and trite syllogisms and sound bite slogans to demonize one's opponent or target of criticism, an attempt to reduce the other individual's worth to a bestial level - public, private or otherwise. Ironically, a Bush-Cheney tactic. So, I am not attacking the messenger here, just, more so, the vehicle used to launch said attack.

As for the message itself, I think it a stretch, for it connotes that Obama is really a terrorist at heart. And though I do loathe Bush, I think he was, for the most part, a clueless pawn duped by Cheney. Bush was not that complex - he was a man with much more abecedarian motives, practically wholly consisting of: (a) getting re-elected and (b) killing varmints at the 'ol ranch. Bush's colors did not manifest in Cheney. Cheney's colors, which included designs on democratizing the Arab World (a true assertion - not an attack - just ask Dick himself) - manifested themselves in Bush's policies.
