I concur, 30 degree bags are almost a waste of money.

Yes, insulating an air mattress is key. I've found egg crate foam and a cut off pillow top from an old mattress worked very well, though both were a bit bulky.

No, it's not too late. Read your survival guide and archives of JR Speaks for resources. Are you going solo? Have any experienced burner friends you can plan or maybe camp with?

I love the pillowcase idea. 6 years and that's a new one for me. Thanks!

Favorite gift: a Polaroid someone took of me and my then girlfriend our first day wandering around deep space. I still keep it by my desk at work.

Good call on the spray bottle, I think that's on my list of things I wish I'd brought last year. And I'm sure you've heard this, but please be courteous if you offer to spray others. You didn't mention sharing, I only mention it because lavender gives my wife migraines and she's gotten a face full of such 'gifts' multiple times.

My partner and I (along with several of our friends) have an agreement that at any time we can be told/asked "food", "water", or "sleep" and you cant get mad. Others will often notice you getting cranky/dehydrated before you will.

I like to do this when I'm making pasta exactly for that reason, a subtle enhancement of flavor for the noodles. I'll add about a .5 Tsp for ~2L of H2O for cook .5 lbs of pasta. When I've added a full Tsp my wife complained it was too much.

Also, a small amount of olive oil added to the water prior to the pasta helps prevent the pasta from sticking.

Using LN2 to make ice cream. It turns out really smooth because the ice crystals form so small.

Bathsheba is one of my favorite artists here in Santa Cruz. She has a background as a mathematician and got hooked as an artist exploring some of the math that describes the geometry of her sculptures. I found the pages on her site describing the 3d printing & casting process interesting reading.

They were out of Bort name tags.
