Trickski - The Warm Up (Original Mix) [slow, funky berlin techno with a strong dose of the 'D']

viborg [S] 0 points1 point 20 hours ago[-]

...As in 'Detroit'. Trickski are a tight little German duo, and yet another of the Sonar Kollektiv roster of artists. They've come out with some strong mixes, as well as their own music they released over the years. I strongly recommend the mixes for RA or Beats In Space, and if anyone needs I can upload them.

What do you guys think of the new design aspects of iTunes 10?

I think you should read this thread.

Slight tangent: peaches (Prunus persica) originated in China and the seeds are used in traditional medicine to 'purge the bowels'.

What? I consider myself reasonably tech-savvy and I really like iTunes for the most part, aside from a couple of rage-inducing bugs. I don't really understand tty00's complaint about sorting music, because in the app you can sort music myriad different ways using command-B. I guess he's talking about the structure of folders in the library, in which case, so what? It rarely bothers me that the folders are alphabetical by artist.

Also, you can select the default file format in Preferences. AAC is merely optional, and I thought it wasn't really proprietary anyway. I understand the complaints about lossless formats but I'm not so much of a music snob that it really affects me either.

I just wish they'd fix those damned bugs. And please let us disable Cover Flow on iPods/iPhones.

My sleepy babies :).

The downsides for me are possible crippling expense if they get sick, the possibility I may have to mover where cats aren't allowed, and the issue of finding someone to watch them if I go out of town. Over the years I've had a succession of toms move in with me at various places from NC to CA, but now am catless ;_;

Here are a couple of furry little bros I really wish I could take home with me but I'm not sure it would be a good idea.

Where's the kitty, or was he a guest?

Edit
Never mind, I saw the answer.

Well, Persians do make pretty nice carpets. I don't know if they're muslin, though. Hmm...actually muslins did come from the Middle East.

Jesus, can we please keep the clothes off these poor cats? I can see how a dog might like a jumper or whatever but I've never met a cat that would tolerate this crap.

California plan to ban plastic bags rejected

viborg 4 points5 points 1 day ago[-]

California lawmakers have rejected a bill seeking to ban plastic shopping bags after a contentious debate over whether the state was going too far in trying to regulate personal choice.

No, fuck you AP and Rupert Murdoch. Your freedom of personal choice ends when you're so irresponsible that your trash forms a giant fucking island in the middle of the ocean.

He's straight (know a few girls he's hit on, including my gf, before we met).

Oh, honey. You've got a lot to learn.

What really set me off, aside from the incessant chicken little squawking, is how blatantly prejudiced he is when it comes to the South. Yeah, there's lots of ignant people down there, but they're not all down there.

Remember not too long ago when there was all this news about conservative groups gaming digg? Be warned, now that digg has fallen, they will come here

viborg 5 points6 points 2 days ago[-]

Exactly. Presumably there are several different right-wing groups trying to manipulate opinion here. The Digg crew were a relatively small group who were able to game the site due to its specific features, as I understand it. There is also a group of neofascists who have explicitly stated that they want to "poison the discourse" on sites including reddit.

I do have to wonder if they're starting to have some results, or whether reddit is just once again succumbing to the lowest common denominator effect, when reading threads like this one:

(TL;DR: All of California's problems are caused by teachers unions.)

[Obama] certainly appears to be hostage of the more malign forces in society these days -- the multi-national corporations. But I don't believe it's because he wants to suck up to them. My own guess is that he's been informed that the system is so fragile that if he dares to disturb even one teensy-weensy part of it that said system will fly to pieces in a fortnight.

I just realized that Kunstler basically has the same mentality as an apocalyptic fundie Christian. He is a man that believes that the "world" could end at any moment, and that we should constantly be preparing for the end times. I do also realize many of us here appreciate the hopelessness of our current situation, but not all of us dwell on it obsessively.

Could it be that Obama's slavish devotion to the corporate masters is not so much a result of concern about our dire predicament as it is just the typical ongoing cause of our problems, which has dogged American politics for generations?

As for Palin, it's hard for me to understand how she could be much worse than the Cheney Presidency.

Doesn't conscious basically mean "awake"? How can you say that a bee, for example, which some vegans avoid eating honey because of, is any more conscious than a worm or a crustacean? Where do you draw the line?
